Garrett is the artistic director of the Fisher Ensemble which has supported the development and production of many of his projects. Founded in 1994, the Ensemble creates opera-theatre that seeks to be a vital part of our community and culture. Combining diverse influences into a unique sound, the Ensemble's works invite audiences to re-imagine the contemporary world through lenses of myth and history.

The ensemble has performed at such venues as HERE Arts Center, Galapagos Art Space (where Beth Morrison Projects produced Garrett Fisher’s opera KOCHO in 2011), and Judson Memorial Church (New York), as well as On the Boards and the Chapel (Seattle). Their work is recorded on BIS Records (The Passion of Saint Thomas More, earning 10/10 from Classics Today), and on 16 Visions Records which recorded their work at Jack Straw Cultural Center. PSYCHE won a "Best of ’08" award from Seattle Magazine. 

The Ensemble has received support from 4culture, Bossack Heilbron Foundation, Centrum Arts Colony, City of Seattle, King County Performance Network, and the Puffin Foundation. Their performances have been reviewed by the New York Times, New Yorker, Wall Street Journal, TimeOut NY, Seattle Times, and Seattle Post-Intelligencer. 

In addition to live performance, the Ensemble has supported the creation of Garrett Fisher's genre-breaking "web opera" which presented Fisher’s PSYCHE, the web opera, episodically on the Internet to 18,000 viewers worldwide. The ensemble has recently embarked on an education initiative to bring opera to Seattle area schools. "There's nothing else in Seattle like the Fisher Ensemble — and there may not be in the whole country, either...the sound is richly resonant and you never know how it's going to shape itself around you" wrote the Seattle Times.
