I built this full-length album in the studio using live performance and pre-recorded samples, as well as sounds and rhythms in Reaktor and Reason. I edited/mixed it in Protools. This is a soundtrack to an animation that I also created and edited, combining music with image. It premiered at the Madrid International Film Festival where it was nominated for best animation.

I built this full-length album in the studio entirely as a multitrack recording in the studio. I brought each performer in separately to improvise elements of my score without any interaction with others. Over hours of these individual takes, I cultivated each performer’s own authentic sound and intepretation, and in the editing and mixing process, selected and combined fragments to build an overall cohesive sonic effect. I created the fictitious keyboard instrument to bridge East and West musical traditions. I wanted to forge the illusion that the singers and instrumentalists all inhabited the same space but maintained their own individuality in collaborative yet spontaneous improvisation.

I recorded this project using a hybrid strategy: partially as a live ensemble and partially as a multitrack recording to create a sound that was both intimate and epic. Although this piece was originally presented as a live opera performed in the round, I wanted to create a recording that was an experience unto itself.
